The Jim & Cathy Smith Community Leadership Award will be bestowed upon Hartford Bishops’ Foundation (HBF)Founding Director Peter J. Deckers, M.D., who has shown leadership in his commitment to improve his community, schools, parishes, and ministries in the Archdiocese of Hartford.

The Hartford Bishops’ Foundation has established the Jim and Cathy Smith Community Leadership Award to recognize leaders who have demonstrated exemplary service to the non-profit community in Hartford, Litchfield and New Haven counties. This years award is bestowed upon Dr. Peter Deckers.
Dr. Peter Deckers joined HBF as a founding director in 2016. He provided outstanding leadership as a member of the Executive Committee; Chair of Forward with Faith Vibrant Parishes Council; and member of the Audit Committee. He now serves as HBF Emeritus Director.
Dr. Deckers also serves as Dean Emeritus of the School of Medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center. At UConn Health, he served as Chair of the Department of Surgery, Dean of the School of Medicine, and Executive Vice President.
